Italian GP: Ferrari’s power or Mercedes persistence to triumph?

Ferrari head into their home Italian GP as favorites to get a first Monza win after Charles Leclerc victory in Belgium because 2010.
But encouraged by their own performance at similarly high performance Spa last Sunday, Mercedes are not ruling out stretching their 100 per cent winning run at F1’s Temple of pace since the dawn of the engine in 2014.
After ending their victory burial, Ferrari are currently aiming to secure F1 wins for first time since the beginning of last year – on the weekend the Scuderia anniversary is being celebrated by them.

Ferrari will also be currently introducing their engine upgrade onto the automobiles for this weekend of Sebastian and Leclerc Vettel.
“The perfect method to get ready for Monza is to win races before not merely Spa. However, since Monza is one of the very energy sensitive circuits as well as our package is competitive in Spa, we may expect to become more competitive in Monza as well, no doubt,” said team manager Mattia Binotto.
“You will find a few low downforce packs, some are hurried in Spa and others prepared for Monza, so there’s a question marker. But our car is surely aggressive about the straights.”
It’s that prodigious straight-line performance that Mercedes are most concerned about going onto F1’s fastest circuit.
Lewis Hamilton said after Sunday’s race in Spa:”It’s all straights, therefore Ferrari… it is likely to be a happy weekend for Ferrari, most likely in that respect.
“I mean, this weekend [in Spa]I think only in qualifying we’re losing over a second per lap. There’s not much me and Valtteri could perform in that instance and there is not a lot of corners to grab up that.
“Therefore, it is going to be fascinating. In the next few days we have got to make some improvements to our speed that was right . I don’t know whether that’s possible – but if anybody can do it, it’s our staff.”
But can 2018’s turnaround be repeated by Mercedes?
Having gone counting without a success at home and eight efforts, together with rivals Mercedes winning on F1 five excursions, Ferrari are more desperate to win the GP for a record-extending 20th to give their ardent’Tifosi’ fans cause for celebration.
As Vettel, yet to win for Ferrari at Monza in four efforts, commented:”I believe we have closer and closer from the past decades, but we were missing that final measure.”
The absence of a’step’ was no more obvious than at Monza this past year.
Locking front out, polesitter Kimi Raikkonen and Vettel were still beaten by Hamilton to the race victory. Vettel spun after being chased by Hamilton, while Raikkonen was overtaken from the Mercedes driver.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff claims that they will not suddenly prove a game for Ferrari power, but does suspect after Hamilton came close to overhauling Leclerc in Spa the longer race distance might again offer some chances.
“I do not think we can discover 15kph at the next five days” said Wolff. ” [With] no more DRS. But it’s what is, without a criticism.
“We’ve only got to prepare yourself the very greatest potential for Monza and understand that it is not a track that will suit us and will prefer Ferrari, but we have got to get the best possible job.
“On the Sunday we are looking much closer, even on the circuits, so we I still think we need to give it all we have to finally win the race at Monza.”
Valtteri Bottas, who finished third last year, added:”Last year they had been fast as well but we managed to make their life pretty hard. I think that is where we have booed on what along with the podium.
“We strive to do exactly the exact same again.”
